However.....Fifa says it has not banned the display of poppies by England and Scotland footballers, insisting any such claim is a "distortion of the facts".

But also - Fifa said that when contacted by the four FAs about wearing poppy symbols, it "reminded them about law four" - which states players are not allowed to wear "political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images".

And - Fifa's secretary general, Fatma Samoura, told BBC Sport last week: "We have to apply uniformly and across the 211 member associations the laws of the game.

These bastards speak with forked tongue!

This statement shows that the FIFA spokesperson has totally missed the point of what the poppies are all about.

"Britain is not the only country that has been suffering from the result of war."

One of those rules that is probably well meaning but should only be enforced using common sense(stop sniggering i know it is FIFA). In the case of the Poppy it is obviously as inoffensive as any symbol could possibly be. Issue a warning and make all the right noises but move on.

The same goes for the Irish and their symbol remembering the day they held up a Post Office

wheresoeverwhensoever and howsoever we are called upon to make our exit. We shall do so as free men.

The farce gets worse:- http://www.scotsman....-game-1-4293922

Fifa to probe all acts of remembrance during football game

A Fifa spokesman said: “The disciplinary committee decided to open proceedings against the FA and the Scottish FA in relation to a series of incidents reported after the match, including the wearing of arm bands with a poppy symbol, several cases of fan misconduct, a non-approved pre-match ceremony, the display of flags by fans with poppies and members of the armed forces, the display of poppy symbols on the big screen and T-shirts displaying poppies placed on seats.

“These incidents potentially constitute breaches of the laws of the game 2016/2017, the Fifa disciplinary code, the Fifa stadium safety and security regulations, the regulations of the 2018 Fifa World Cup and the guidelines for Fifa match officials.”

This from an organisation that awarded Qatar the 2022 World Cup then waited till after the announcement to say that it couldn't be played during the normal months of June/July but would have to be moved due to the heat to later months. No change of venue has been made. And FIFA are concerned about the Poppy? Still corrupt......with power!

I was going to say 'unfuckingbelievable' but to be honest it is really par for the course. Appears FIFA have really not changed since the smarking dwarf got booted....have a butchers at this.....

The full details of Fifa's shock disciplinary action against Wales over poppies has been revealed - and it even involves fans wearing them on the night against Serbia.

Fifa bosses have announced they have opened proceedings against Wales following a number of poppy incidents at the November 12 World Cup qualifier at Cardiff City Stadium.

Almost unbelievably, one of the issues Fifa have raised is the fact that some fans entered the ground wearing poppies. The game was played 24 hours after Armistice Day and ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

The FA of Wales say they will robustly defend themselves against the charges.

The incidents under investigation, as detailed in communication from Fifa to the FAW, include:

* Some supporters in the stands wearing the poppy

* A member of the armed forces was holding a bunch of poppies at the entrance/exit of the players' tunnel

* A fans' mosaic depicting the poppy was displayed during the Welsh national anthem

* A banner depicting the poppy was also displayed by Wales supporters before the match started.

I'm not overly surprised at this, because if they deem the poppy to be a political statement, then it's not too much of a stretch to liken the wearing of one to a banner held up by fans.

I agree, but I can see where they are coming from.

The worst bit about it is that they refused to explicitly state that it would be deemed unacceptable when asked prior to the game.

Exactly...... NI asked and were told no poppy on Shirts or armband with a poppy.....

They wore plain black armbands, had 1 minute silence, put the names of guys who played for us and died during the world wars on a big screen and the Kop end held up a poppy display thing.......

Thought they were OK....... nope, disciplinary proceedings have started

What has FIFA ever done that was of benefit to football in the British Isles?

Is the slim chance of taking part in FIFA's devalued tournament once every four years worth the hassle of situations like this?

Maybe it's time for the British Football Associations to kick. FIFA into touch

Matter of principle for me Norn.....how these fuckers can view a symbol of remembrance & respect as political is beyond my comprehension. They are arrogant, out of touch, corrupt bastards. No way should any fine be paid especially since the charges involved 'fans wearing poppies' !

That's FIFA for you Norn....give some fucker a bit of power and they will always abuse it. Commonsense has no place in FIFA's reason d'etre.
