Series ?

Series and season can be interchangeable.

For clarity I tend to use series to describe a programme which is broadcast at regular intervals and season to describe a group of episodes.

Fore example: Parkinson was a TV series. The Chase is a series. etc etc.

Anyway, just finished watching Season/Series 2 of The Expanse. Can't wait for number 3.

I just mention it Hairy as the word 'season' for these shows has become more prevalent in recent years . An 'Americanism' replacing the word 'series'.

Yes, I agree, and normally i would avoid it. But given that series can mean something other than a collection of episodes it does seem to make sense.

The trouble is that the whole world is becoming Americanised. It is very apparent here in The Antipodes.

Australia now uses labor instead of labour.

Plus in sports the word loss has almost completely ousted defeat.

Everyone now seems to be adopting the American habit of verbal shorthand with prepositions and conjunctions being omitted, the st/nd/rd/th suffices being dropped from dates.

pedant.jpg    As I said, sometimes they make sense, but mostly it's just fucking annoying.

Totally agree, the whole thing is something that really annoys me.
The Americans call almost everything a different name and only a small percent make sense to me......like spring, they call it fall and that makes sense.

They pronounce things incorrectly too, at first I thought it was the accent but now Im convinced they do it just to fuck with us.
We say Basil while they say Bayzil, we say alluminium while they say Alloominum.
We say Edinburgh while they say Edinbro. We say Glasgow while they say Glasscow.

They spell it the same but say it totally wrong, so so many things and it drives me crazy.
Trousers, they say pants.
Mobile, they say cell
Holiday, they say vacation
Gravy, they say sauce
Sauce, they say gravy
Waistcoat, they say vest
Vest, they say t shirt
T-shirt, they say undershirt
So many more its unbelievable and it drives me crazy.
Its English they speak and all these things already had a name before their country was even discovered or at least pretty much the basic stuff was.

I was in Vegas the other year and I almost flipped my lid, was in a casino surprise surprise and was about to play a machine.
So when you go it gives you a choice of the 3 most widely spoken languages in the states......Spanish, French and ??
Well English but they had the American flag.......can someone tell me what college, university or anywhere else you can learn the American language ?
There is no such place because its not a language.......im going to stop now because I feel my head about to explode.

Back on topic, Im near the end of season 2 Hairy.....such a good programme.
