It works for them at the moment so why would they want to change. Your 2nd reason is weak and has no bearing on 51 years later.

I answered in post #5. Why post Dyke's comments ? They have no relevance to your initial question.

Couldnt care less to be honest, what they need to do is bring the EPL back to a level where every other club can compete with them on a finacial footing......rigjt now teams cant due to billion pound tv deals.

England will never win a major tournament while there league is filled with imports.

Cam....what has tv deals got to do with Stuart's question ? Absolutely nothing. Your argument is for elsewhere if you want to kick it off again mate.

He is talking about "making it better" overall.
Getting rid of the stupid spending might be a start especially if they want to improve fortunes of the national team and allow their own talent to nurture properlly.
They have a big pool of talented young guys down their but too many are not given a proper shot due to £50 mill spent on this one and £80 mill spent on that one.

Seems relevant to me Dug

Where did Stuart say that ? It was simply 'should it be increased' then he mentioned change is as good as a rest no ? Your obsession with tv money is totally irrelevant here mate.

Perhaps you are right, I thought he was asking 2 questions !

Either way I cant see England making progress while the youngsters are ignored in favour of multi million pound foreign imports........as for increase in the league, will only happen if the TV guys want it to happen. They decide these things now but why change it while its gaining popularity every year elsewhere

No

But if it see's the day then bottom 4 down first 6 from Championship promoted and end of play offs, parachute payments and the £150m play off final.

From then on 6 down 6 up, that would stir things up for the better.

It's becoming more and more evident that you are living in some kind of fantasy world.

How did they manage to get the Premier League reduced from 22 teams to 20 i.e 2 less clubs in the Premier, yet Premier clubs refuse to reduce the league from 20 teams down to 18 teams for fear of teams loosing there place in the top flight by the premier being shorter in size by 2 teams.

Greg Dyke, then at ITV, planed to launch a new 'ITV ten' breakaway league with these top clubs in 1988.

1:- Manchester United

2:- Arsenal

3:- Liverpool

4:- Everton

5:- Tottenham Hotspur

6:- Aston Villa

7:- Nottingham Forest

8:- West Ham United

9:- Newcastle United

10: Sheffield Wednesday
