That reminds me, I'm not a big fan of comic book movie adaptations, but one that I watched for the first time last week - and god knows why I never had previously - was V for Vendetta. Thought it was fantastic! Again, my undying love for Natalie Portman did help...
V is excellent . Have you seen Watchmen ? If you liked V you'll enjoy Watchmen .

I have seen Watchmen and I did enjoy it. Was a while back when it was first released, but I do recall I wasn't keen on how it all panned out in the end. Better than a lot of these superhero films but still a bit cheesy and ridiculous at times for me, some of them are too surreal for my liking.

Now, Kick-Ass - there was a film I LOVED.
Kick-Ass and Scot Pilgrim were fantastic . Two films that are just as funny as it gets .

One to watch out for don't know when it comes out or if its been released yet . Super ... with Rainn Wilson looks to be of the same ilk as the 2 mentioned .

I thought Scott Pilgrim was one of best films I saw last year. It was clever and witty. The girl was hot too.

Just watched my blu-ray copy of Green Zone for the first time, a film that I thoroughly enjoyed in the cinema.

Posted Image

This is one that really impressed me, and covered a very interesting - and at times sensitive - topic. It is loosely based on a true story, but the characters themselves are fictional. However, the subject it covers - the futile search for WMDs in Iraq - is very much a real one, and it displays it in a very controversial light.

Matt Damon plays Roy Miller, and American warrant officer who is in charge of locating WMDs in Iraq, and thus justifying the decision to go to war. It doesn't take long for Miller to start growing suspicious of repeatedly bad intel, and soon he is embroiled in an internal battle between American forces, also involving the CIA. He gradually unravels a dirty secret that could seriously call into question the decision to go to war with Iraq.

The film is fast-paced and doesn't hang around from the off. Although it involves a form of conspiracy theory, it keeps everything relatively simple and concentrates on the action scenes and keeping the audience entertained.

A fantastic action film from start to finish, utilising shaky cam techniques, quick editing and an excellent soundtrack to ensure you're never bored. I'd highly recommend it.

Really enjoyed X Men 1st class tonight. Michael Fassenbender was superb as Magneto and Kevin Bacon was very cool as the bad guy.

I thought the story of the film was decent with all the mutants discovering others who also had powers. Also it was interesting to see how they were scared about how society would accept them. The main story though was about how Erik became Magneto.

Fassenbender could be the next big box office actor.

Glad you enjoyed it mate, thanks for the review. It's the second positive review of it I've heard tonight, on top of quite a few before, so I really need to get myself to the cinema to see it - especially since it doesn't cost me anything.

It's a good cast, I like McAvoy, Fassbender and Bacon. Best X-Men so far you reckon?

It could possibly be the best one so far due to the decent story that runs through it with the mutants discovering their powers. Great cameo from Hugh Jackman in it.

I never read the comics so don't know how it compares to that but I enjoyed it as a film.

Was feeling nostalgic tonight so decided to watch one of my childhood favourites, Flight of the Navigator.

Won't bother going into it in too much depth, has a bit of an 'ET' feel about it but not quite as good. Young boy returns home one night to discover he's missed 8 years and his family and brother have grown older yet he hasn't aged a day. At the same time NASA discover a mysterious alien spaceship, and soon enough a strange link between the boy and the ship is discovered. Anyway, they go on some fun adventures and some mildly amusing things happen etc etc

7/10

One thing that did make me laugh out loud - seeing a 21-year-old Sarah Jessica Parker, well before her Sex and the City days...

It's a straightforward, feel-good family film to be honest. Nothing ground breaking (well, not now anyway) but you'd struggle to dislike it. Everything made in the 80s seems so innocent now though...

Just re-watched one of my favourite films from 2009 which I just picked up on blu-ray today, The Blind Side.

Posted Image

Nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture, and won an Oscar for best actress(Sandra Bullock) this film is one that has all the right ingredients for me. It's based on a true story, a great sporting achievement, someone overcoming great hardship and just a wonderful human interest tale.

It follows Michael Oher, a Black teenager who gets accepted into a Christian school but has nowhere to live and no real family to count on. He is taken in by Leigh Anne Tuohy(Bullock) and her family and for the first time in his life discovers what it's like to feel loved and have a real future ahead of him. He also turns out to be an exceptional football player, partly due to his huge build, and soon enough colleges are fighting over him for a football scholarship.

At times you realise the film is being deliberately sentimental to play on your heart strings, but I have to admit I love that. It IS a true story, even if I imagine some elements are probably over-dramatised or slightly altered to make them work better as a film. But all in all it is a fantastic script, with some wonderful performances. Although she has ended up in some howlers down the years, I've always liked Sandra Bullock and she really shines in this one - and was probably deserving of her Oscar for it.

If you like sports movies, and films with a bit of sentiment in them, based on a true story, then you have to see this one!

That was my favourite film that came out that year too. Truly inspirational as a film.

There is a thread on here which asks what is your favourite sports film?

Maybe as a film buff you could start a film genre favourite film type thing?

Could be a plan mate! Will give it some thought, although there are so many genres, sub-genres and hybrids these days that it can be difficult to narrow some down.

Have to say that I did enjoy this movie, even if it was a bit sugary sweet at times. Another two that I enjoyed about American football were Any given Sunday and Remember the Titans

Another couple of great shouts there. I'm a huge Pacino fan, and rewatched Any Given Sunday just the other week. Great film, carried a bit by the man himself but still one of the top sports movies.

Have to add Fever Pitch to the list though, cracking sports film, and British too!

Remember the Titans was on one of the ITV channels a couple of weeks ago, there was foot ball on sky at the same time so I recorded it with V+ so will watch it this week at some point

I watched an American Football film a couple of weeks ago can't remember the name of it but it starred Mark Wahlberg . It was a true story and was a fine film about a guy who comes of the streets late in life and ends up playing pro for his local team.
