I still think dundee will make it and it would be good for the spl with thier fan base, though a sad loss for attendances in league one.I dont feel county would be much of an asset to the spl with thier poor travelling support

I would agree that they are looking like very strong favourites.

While I agree about wanting to see Dundee back in the SPL, I don't think it's happening this year. I'm quite looking forward to getting a Highland derby at the top level though.

Another argument for a bigger top division!

First Division leaders Ross County have less than seven weeks left to prove to the SPL Victoria Park will meet top-tier stadium criteria.
The ground has a capacity of 6310 of which only 2800 are seated but the SPL demands a minimum of 6000 seats.
It is understood a planning application for the replacement of the standing Jail End with a new stand have been lodged with Highland Council but County directors refused to return calls yesterday.
They may have to enter a temporarily ground-sharing agreement with Inverness.
SPL communications director Natalie Duncan said: “March 31 is the deadline.”
In November County chairman Roy McGregor claimed Victoria Park could be brought up to SPL standard “within 10-12 weeks”.

Following a narrow defeat in the cup last night County can concentrate on winning the league.

Although a cup win would have been great I was actually pleased they went out so that they can concentrate on the league as well as start to get the games in hand played.

ROSS COUNTY are on course to bring their stadium up to SPL standard in time for next season.
The First Division leaders will spend around £1million on installing almost 2000 seats at both ends of Victoria Park in order to meet the top flight’s strict criteria.
But chairman Roy MacGregor, who ruled out talk of a possible need to groundshare with Inverness Caledonian Thistle if work isn’t completed in time, admits he is disappointed to see the loss of the traditional terracing at the Jail End behind one of the goals.
And with the revamp meaning County’s capacity will be reduced by 700, he questioned the need for 6000 all-seater stadiums in a financial climate where crowds are dwindling.
MacGregor said: “We are on course to have the stadium ready for next season, if we are lucky enough to go up.
“We have just reapplied to have our planning permission renewed and if we are in a position to go up we can install everything within about 10 weeks. So it’s no problem for next season.
“We are actually going to reduce the capacity of the stadium by 700. It’s quite sad that we had Celtic here this season in the League Cup and had 6500 but now we are going to have to reduce that to put seats in.
“We have had an audience that stood in the Jail End for 50 or 60 years but now that
tradition has to end.
“I understand that is the rule of the SPL but I operate in the energy, oil and gas business where you do a risk assessment and in a small ground like this it’s difficult to think we will have a problem with just 6000 people, regardless of whether they are standing or sitting.
“I understand why the rules were put in place when we had older grounds and a couple of disasters in England caused people to think about it.
“I appreciate the need for these measures in big stadiums but in small grounds where SPL clubs are getting up to 10,000 people I’m not sure it’s a great rule.
“In trying to attract fans to modern stadiums we have lost the traditional football audience – and that’s partly to do with all-seater stadia and the entertainment on offer.
“We’ve seen what’s happened to one of this country’s great football institutions this week. Now Scotland has to take a hard look at itself because we are not getting people into grounds.
“Even the Old Firm aren’t filling their grounds and we have to review our product because we have forgotten about the average fan.
“But until it’s looked at again, clubs have to play by the SPL rules on having a minimum of 6000 seats. If we want to join the club we have to accept it.”

I think it's terrible that County will be forced to install a seated area when the SPL is currently looking at safe standing areas being introduced. County could be about to piss money down the drain, something they can ill afford. Surely the SPL has to see common sense? How often will the ground be filled? I'm sure the local derby wouldn't lose anything if the terracing was allowed to stay open

At this rate, they might not need to get them played. Falkirk and Dundee are running out of games to catch up as it is.

County away at Dens on Saturday is a big fixture even though County have 3 games in hand as the gap to Falkirk is now down to 2 points.
