I just finished Uncharted 3 the other week, unfortunately it is a PS3 exclusive!

A really good website for game ratings is http://www.gamerankings.com/ - it gives an average percentage rating for games based on all the major reviews, and you can also link through to these reviews as well, and look at games by which console/format they are on too.

What sort of games are you after? A lot depends on taste - I loved Top Spin and FIFA, but I've never been into driving games. Are First Person Shooters an option? If so, you have Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 out recently. Maybe pop down to your local Blockbuster and give the games a try first!

Forza 4 is a good shout, but as Laurie says, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 are out now. If you like shooting games you have to get at least one of these.
If it's more for Jock Jnr, get Guitar Hero. Try to get the full band version. That will give you drums, 2 guitars and a mic. It makes for a great family night in. (And a great drunken night in with pals once the kids are away to bed!!)

I've played forza 2 & 3 and they are excellent games. Not arcade though, if you or your daughter has aspirations to race people online, alot of time will have to be spent honing your skills in my experience. If you fancy an arcade racer, I think the new need for speed is out or just about to come out but getting average reviews.

I hear the new batman game is good and the latest assasins creed will no doubt be decent if thats your thing.

Youtube is a good source as well for seeing what the games look/play like.

An alternative to blockbuster for renting games is lovefilm, no return dates etc.

What sort of games and more importantly price range are you thinking off?

You could check our site frugalgaming.co.uk for some ideas. (shameless plug)

Thanks guys and I will check out the website Laurie.....the games are for Jnr so I won't be going for 18 certs.I'll check out The Need For Speed and Guitar Hero's as well. The new Batman does look good as does Rayman Origins.

I was reading through this thread and thought about your site. Then I seen your post. What a coincidence.

Some 18s should be ok. For example, Grand Theft Auto deserves its 18 certificate, but I would argue that the Modern Warfare games are more deserving of a 15.

I dont have an XBOX, but I hear that it has a good selection of retro games to choose from on the online store. They are cheap as well, so you could get a few for the price of a normal game.

If your buying MW then get 2, exactly the same game as 3 and a fraction of the price pre owned.

A plug for Nory's site is always allowed. Unless your work network blocks it because its a gaming site :(

Jock, the latest Top Spin is a bit fiddly, I preferred Top Spin 3 or better still Virtua Tennis, the gameplay was better.

Thanks Bundy I was about to bid for Top Spin 4 but will check out Top Spin 3 ......I've just phoned her as I was sure she has Virtual tennis for the Wii and she has......she has also decided to go for two racing games (Pure and Forza), a tennis game (she has Fifa12) and two shoot em ups. So looking for shoot up suggestions that aren't 18's (though will look at Craigs idea) The Orange Box looks quite good....despite the name lol.

Orange box is excellent. Half life two is still decent if a bit dated. Portal is unbridled genius. A must buy for a newbie to gaming.

So there is a game just called The Orange Box (it has a great review on Metacritic) and Portal is a different one again? (I couldn't find MW2 on your website?)
