Nice to see Gary again. That's my wee claim to fame. Gary and his brother, Craig, were my neighbors. They were raised by their dad, Sam, and both were brilliant at sports. Craig and I would play golf during the summer and Gary would pick us up afterwards. We never played with him because he was a scratch golfer. At school he was Scotish schools badminton champion, golf champion and table tennis champion as well as an established football player. In the end, he choose football and signed for Motherwell because of the money.
I remember when he played for the Steelmen he would bring complimentary tickets to the house for my dad and his mates when the Rangers came to play at Fir Park.
Craig and I would go and watch him training sometimes and we both had a spell at Motherwell in the youth setup. I never got to play but Craig was just as good as Gary. Less discipline though and that's probably what held Craig back. I always thought Craig was the better footballer.
