Anyone here a keen golfer?
I'm a complete novice myself, started playing a while back but never had the time to play often enough. Trying to get back into it now but I'm feckin mince if I'm honest. My swing was absolutely shocking but after a pro gave me a couple of tips I'm actually hitting the ball straight more regularly. Up till now I'd hardly been hitting the feckin ball. I'm hoping this year to get plenty of practice in and play as often as possible. If you play, do you have any tips I could use to stop me bending clubs round trees?

A wise man once said that Golf was a good walk wasted...if you find it anything other than that then it's no fun at all!

Seriously though, just enjoy the day out away from the hassles of life and maybe you'll be better the next time than you were today.

I'd just started learning when the winter set in which has rather killed it for now. Hoping to try and get some more lessons in the spring.

That could be me writing that post.
The only way to improve is practice, practice, practice.

Pity I haven't taken my own advice. :(

I play every weekend during the spring/summer/autumn months, although it is only pitch and putt at Stirling Uni. I do go round a full course once or twice a year, but thats it.

By all accounts, that's a pretty decent facility. I particularly liked the Six week lesson package which costs you feck all except the price of the practice balls.........might just try that

It's going to be a shite tournament if the standard is as bad as everyone is saying. :)

That's precisely what I did! But the 6 weeks finished so late in the year I couldn't just go into the next set of lessons as they stop them over the winter with the rubbish weather. I really need to go up there and just hit some balls for a bit so I don't forget what I've learned so far.

It's more about the repetition for me at the moment. Need to not get out of the swing of it, if you'll pardon the pun.

It's actually the wrong side of the city for me! I'm south side and surrounded by golf courses, but the facilities up there are too good not to use.

Funnily enough though, when I was younger I used to play the pitch and putt in Callander Park in Falkirk, and I might have played that course Craig mentioned at Stirling Uni too. But that was so long ago I'm not only starting again I'm not playing left handed instead of right handed.

Good luck wi' that

The pitch and putt near me is Hogganfield and it's a joke TBH. It's in a right state.

I consider myself a golfer despite not hitting a ball for nearly 3 years. Too busy at work in that time unfortunately.

My previous employer had a corporate membership for Dalmahoy Country club just west of Edinburgh. Brilliant it was too, buggies wi sat nav !, they've got 2 great courses there, 1 is a championship course where pro tourneys are held from time to time. I played there at least once a week for years.....pity i moved jobs...around 2 years ago.

My unofficial handicap then was 9 and my best round ever was a 4 over par 76. Hit a few 78's.

Aiming to get back into it this year again.
