Is that the Bathgate sports centre course? if so thats the one I take my kids to. I don't play much myself but enjoy it when I do, I think the trick when starting out Golf is not to try and whack the backside off the ball, get the stance and grip right and make sure you just hit the thing, works for me anyway, but not to the extent where I could really do it justice, I suppose that is where the practise comes in

the very wan Sheepy. 2nd hole up the wee hill was the scene of my joy, i think...mibbies the 4th

Hitting the ball right is priority, not hard. Swing through it and dont try to hit at it is the key.

The bathgate sports centre course is a great place to start and learn

certainly is a good place to learn and I know the holes you are referring to, me and the wife made the mistake of taking all four kids at the same time, won't be doing that again in a hurry, took about three hours to get round that course

I was on the waiting list at Shotts from the day I was born and a member until I was around 20-year old when I left Scotland. Managed to get to scratch at the age of 15 during summer holidays but quickly lost the edge when I stopped playing regularly.

My dad is still a member at Shotts, ex-chairman, and brought a set of clubs to Brazil for me a few years back....still haven't used them and would be happy to hit under 100 if I did play again.

Think I've played almost all the course in North Lanarkshire and Shotts is definately one of the best. Wishaw is a nice course too as is Strathaven.

Wasn't the fourth or fifth at Shotts regarded as one of the hardest holes in the world . I'm sure i heard it was mentioned in some book on the subject . It's the one with the out of bounds all down the right and the elevated green with the burn running around it .

I think you're taking about the third hole (been a while) and it's a tough hole.

May well be the third . Only played Shotts twice and have a tendency to mix the course up with Fauldhouse when talking about it .

It's a short par 4 but you really need to hit the green with the 2nd or you're in trouble. Burn on the right and bunker on the left of an elevated green.....easy enough if you've played it as much as I have but even then!

good thread this
not had a game in over a year but did used to play fairly regular often
it was palacerigg in cumbernauld i played more than anywhere but learned at the likes of Hogganfield/Alexandra Park/Littlehill
Also found the 9 hole course at larkhall a decent place to go when time was against you
the last 5 years it's been mostly westerwood/dullatur/alva (another 9 holer but feckn tough as it's built into the hills)
need to get myself out more this year......when i was playing fairly regular (14-19) i'd be aiming for mid 80's.....think i'm above that now and even level 5's is pushing it probably
also played the wee 9 hole course at stirling uni..but you can go there with a 9 iron and putter, but a decent walk and bit of fresh air.......the p/p at hogganfield was a disgrace the last time i played there...is it still open Bundy?

East Kbrude has two excellent municiple courses . Torrance hiuse and Langlands . They are bith off the Strathaven road and are reasonable price wise if anybody is looking for a new coyrse to play

I live near Carnoustie so was brought up playing quite alot. Gave it up a few years ago but will pick it back up when I retire in 45 years time. Hope I won't be too rusty.
There's only one team in Dundee, always was, always will be.

jock, , my 2 cousins play loads up your way...one is in inverness and the other lives in culloden....don't know what course they play but the younger of the 2 should have been good enough to go pro back in his day but decided not to...still plays enough to have somewhere between 1-5 handicap i'm sure...last time i heard i think they both played out of nairn,,not 100% though

One of my son-in-laws plays off two..amazing to watch him. He used to play with Ronan Rafferty & Darren Clarke years back when they were in their teens

Any of you boys played Dalmuir golf course? It's a bit of a killer. I was absolutely knackered after playing there on Tuesday but (spot the novice) I was chuffed to fuck cause I went round in 92 and didn't lose a ball all day.......pretty unusual for me haha.

Think this is from the 14th. Some crackin holes on this course. The Wee Drap is a tricky par 3 where you look straight down to the green that hass water in front and bunkers behind. The Cardiac Arrest describes the course perfectly, by the time you get to the green ye want a lie down
