I know we've discussed this before, but I think it's always worth revisiting.

What would your all time SPL XI be? Now, to make it interesting, you can only select a maximum of TWO players from each side. So, from the start of the SPL in 98/99, choose your best XI.

If a player maybe played for more than one club I suppose you could then use that to select him, ie. Stokes for Falkirk.

OK, here I go. I changed it around a few times, and it's tricky to decide - but I'll go with this, bearing in mind the midfield wouldn't be as flat as it may appear!

..............................................................................Gordon(Hearts)................................................................

McNaughton(Aberdeen).............Anderson(Aberdeen)............Webster(Dundee Utd).................. Numan(Rangers)

....................Arteta(Rangers).................Petrov(Celtic)...........Sauzee(Hibs)...............Skacel(Hearts).......................

........................................................ Larsson(Celtic)..............McFadden(Motherwell)...........................................
I'll paint this place maroon!

Cheers.

It's really tricky, there are plenty better players for certain positions but the max 2 from a single club rule means you have to juggle things around. I think it makes it an interesting challenge, and I'm sure we'll see some good variations.

I'm sure I've blatantly forgotten one or two quality players!

In terms of entertainment, I would sign

Encelmann (St Jon)

Davie Bowman (Dundee Utd) Clancy (Kilmarnock)

Bobby Russell (Rangers) Stevie Kirk (Well) Lambert (Celtic) Boyd (Celtic)

Cooper (Rangers) Arnott (Well) T Cowan (Hibernian) Shite (Celtic)

the 2 from each team makes it interesting, and feckn difficult......

but from off the top of my head this is what I came up with....4-4-2

----------------------------------------------------------Andy Goram (Motherwell)------------------------------------------------------------
Andreas Hinkel (Celtic)------------ Davie Weir (Rangers)------------------- Michael Duberry (St Johnstone)-----Takis Fyssas (Hearts)
Craig Conway (Dundee Utd)------ Ronald De Boer (Rangers)--------------Morgaro Gomis (Dundee Utd)-------James McFadden (Motherwell)
------------------------------------------Henrik Larsson (Celtic)-----------------Kris Boyd (Kilmarnock)
Faithful through and through

An interesting selection. Fyssas was one that I wanted to get in too, but went with Gordon and Skacel in the end. Not sure I'd agree with Duberry, or Hinkel. Conway maybe didn't do it for long enough.

It's good to see differing opinions thoiugh, and I think the 2 per club rule definitely makes you think outside of the box!

Agathe was totally one footed though Hoopz and was found out after about 18 months. Everybody knew to just push him inside and he turned into a bollard.

i honestly thought duberry would be a nightmare signing for the saints, but, imho, he was immense...may have put bobo balde in but the 2 "PPT" rule scuppered that...hinkel was vastly under-rated, again imho (and i did consider Jackie Mc) but he was often un-noticed with the brilliant runs he made, and he was'nt a bad defender to be fair...conway is based on his late, consistent form and also as i couldnt honeslty think of another wide man from the clubs i left myself available with that i could genuinely put in there

People always remember the game against Ajax when no-one had heard of him. He totally took them by surprise and had the game of his life.
The problem he had was that he needed a ball over the top to run onto. If he went one on one you just showed him inside and he was rendered useless. He was all pace and a good cross now and again...........well for me anyways

Well spotted Dog, "old dog new tricks" Where's your selection ? I'm struggling, can only include two Rangers players... & as Lex McLean used to say "I'm only here to see the Rangers"
54 and counting - We welcome the chase
