Dave Mackay and Ian Black are suspended for this tie, but Murray Davidson and David Templeton could both return for their respective sides.
Rumours are that Steve Lomas may also drop Peter Enkleman, and potentially bring in Alan Mannus.
Match Squads:
St Johnstone: Enckelman, C Davidson, McCracken, Anderson, Morris, Croft, Craig, Sheridan, M Davidson, Sandaza, Haber, Compton, Gray, Stewart, Millar, Moffat, Mannus, Wright, Robertson, Oyenuga.
Hearts: MacDonald, Barr, Hamill, Grainger, McGowan, Webster, Zaliukas, Mrowiec, Robinson, Skacel, Novikovas, Elliott, Obua, Santana, Smith, Glen, Taouil, Driver, Ridgers, Holt.
Tricky one to call for me. Saints have generally been stronger on the road, where they can hit on the break, and were soundly beaten by United at the weekend. Hearts have been poor away from home though, and bar the Celtic game we generally don't concede much, but struggle to get the goals at the other end.
I fancy it being tight, and could go either way by a single goal - or even all the way to extra time and penalties.
Not convinced on Macdonald in goals, but Ridgers is completely untested at this level. Main concern is in attack though, and I'd maybe like to see a 4-4-2 with Smith or Glen allowed to join Elliott up front, since the Irishman really needs more support up there.
Black's absence is a loss, but maybe more reason to go with a flat 4 in the midfield and try and play on the front foot.
I fear we won't though, and this one will be decided by the odd goal in....1.
I've been rather pessimistic recently though and a few fellow Jambos have told me I need to stop being so critical of the team. I'll go 1-0 Hearts. Maroon tinted specs back on
