I've been having a discussion recently with Bripod as he has just recently got a new girlfriend.

We were discussing about going out for meals and such like. More often than not when FW and me are going out for dinner we book through www.5pm.co.uk as you often get better value than if you book directly through the restaurant. They source the best deals plus sometimes you get a free drink. I always reckon why pay more when you can get the same thing for less. He reckons that means I am tight with money where as I prefer to think I am sensible with it. He seems to think you have to splash the cash to impress a girl and this is how you treat a girl. FW and me do treat each other but we both like to be as sensible as we can with money. We still treat each other but just in different ways.

What are your thoughts?

it sounds sensible to me. Nothing wrong with looking for the right deal, even if you are also trying to be romantic.

My problem is I'm never sensible enough with money, and I hate accepting others paying for stuff.

Always try and pay for a girl, often when they are just friends too.

Have tried to change since I've been a student, but I really struggle to allow things to be split, or even worse paid for by someone else - even with mates or whoever.

Not sure about looking for a deal - recent dates have just been the cinema.

It depends if it's a long term relationship or a first date though. Looking for a deal for your 'FW' seems OK, but if it was a first date I'd probably try and splash out a bit more - or at least not look like I was hunting for a cheap fix!

It's not a first date though. They've been together a few months now.

There's a fair difference from having a new G/F and a F/W . Off course you don't want a new burd to think your tight so you spend maybe more than you should but when that burd gets to the F/W stage she probably knows your a tight fucker so there's no point in trying to hide it . Although i have never been accused of being tight by a burd because i know how to treat a lady ......unlike some it seems . But hey ....coupons irny the end of the world JB

We've used 5pm since the start of our relationship pretty much. I've never felt the need to have to splash the cash to impress. From day one also though we've pretty much always split the bill between us.

I guess it depends on the girl too.

My longest lasting relationship (about 2 years) was one in which I paid for most things, and tended to treat her quite a bit. We lived together but I just let her pay half the rent, and then paid the bills on top of that myself, and generally paid when we'd go out, or when she needed something...Hmmm, and I wonder why it was always me who had to do the breaking up...?

Do you tend to get them more often if there is a special deal on?

I immediately thought of Craig's romantic valentine's day dinner when I got a 2 for 1 text from Pizza Hut yesterday

We never get a dominos at their full price, but they often have a deal on, so yeah we do get them more often if its a deal.

I got a curry, with no deal taken advantage off.

I have loads of vouchers for Dominos, so can use it any day of the week

And did you know she made more money than you when you first went out with her ? . If you are living together/married then your income should be shared .Whats yours is hers and whats hers is yours . That means you can't be a tight arse because your a partnership . But if your starting out then the guy should pay for drinks ,meals and such . Her rent , cooncil tax and such like soesn't come into that btw
