I'm no boxing fan generally, but recently I've got caught up in the hype of the David Haye vs Wladimir Klitschko fight, and then the Dereck Chisora vs Vitali Klitschko fight last night in Munich.

As an 'outsider' so to speak, as in someone who doesn't really follow the sport, I've been stunned by the whole pantomime of it all, and how downright childish the whole thing is.

Couple that with how pathetic the fights have actually been - I know, probably too much Rocky and Raging Bull for me - the whole sport, certainly this heavyweight division anyway (I can't claim to watch any other weight classes so won't make a comment on them) just seems like a bit of a joke.

Have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Fighters blaming a defeat on a sore wee toe, or slapping opponents prior to a bout, or even brawling with other fighters after a defeat.

This would all maybe seem like a good sideshow, if the guys could provide a decent spectacle in the ring!

From what I've seen, this lot are NOT Rocky Balboa, Ivan Drago, Clubber Lang or Apollo Crede, even if they act like they've been watching even more Rocky films than I have...

Haye himself fought with a broken hand, yet a broken toe was his downfall. He said he couldn't push off with the same power, yet the pinky toe isn't there for power at all.

Often the undercard is better than the big heavyweight bouts.

Chisora has been detained for questioning and the police are now searching for David Haye.

Apparently there are accusations that Chisora's trainer was glassed during this:

Or wait, was it Haye's trainer who was glassed...? It's all such a mess!

Love when the camera goes back to Klitschko after it all kicked off, he just seems mildly amused at the other two going over the top, and Chisora claiming that he is going to 'shoot David Haye'.

Who knows, you can barely tell what even happened, just rolling about on the floor like a couple of drunks outside a club at 3am on a Saturday night!

All your toes are used for power and movement in boxing, expecially the right one's. Your feet hardly (shouldn't) leave the floor.

On the nonsense after the fight last night, Chisora is trying to act like Mike Tyson used to - bringing the street into the ring and the press conferences. He'll never even get near to how brutal and devastating Tyson was. It's actually embarrassing for boxing. Klitschko bros are what boxing is all about - keeping calm and just going about your business in the ring, where it matters.

If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.

Pushing off your right foot to throw a powerful jab or cross means most of the power is transferred through ball of your right foot and toes to the ground to propel you forward. I can't think what else you think gives you momentum. Unless off course you push off your heel in some sort of bizarre fighting style? :wtf:

I'm sure if you try it properly you'll see what I mean. He probably said it the wrong way, but it was always going to be construed in a certain way by people and turned into a piss take, as people normally do. I know what he meant.
