Quietly Gardner Spiers is following in Billy Stark`s footsteps and the Spiders are climbing the table @ just the right time. Another top four finish now seems well within grasp and yet another promotion play-off spot(at least) for the 4th year running. Alloa are feeling the pressure and Stranraer are due @ Hampden on Saturday so if things go well vs. Berwick on Wednesday, the Spiders could be joint 2nd come Saturday night still with a game in hand over the Wasps. Looking @ the nether region of the 2nd Division, there`s nothing there to worry about unduly. Could be Queen`s year yet.

I should go to a game one day Celtic aren't playing. They're technically my local team now after all. But mainly I'm curious to see how they get on in the stupidly big stadium with such a small crowd. Must be weird.

I`d really, really look forward to more Glasgow derbies vs. the Castle Greyskulls Xl. I was @ a Scottish Cup meeting back in the early 80s when with Queen`s a goal down and pressing the Teddy Bers` back, the referee looked at his Rangers FC Chistmas present watch and blew his final whistle after 87 minutes. I nearly kicked a hole in my bowler hat. The cries of,"Rapscallion referee" were jolly loud.

Sorry to disappoint you but you must be too young JHR to know that Hampdenites were renowned for being of the social class that wore bowlers to work and carried rolled umbrellas. Anyway, the phrase for which you search is "in ra ludge" so you must stand out at Ibrox as being quite posh to say "lodge". You might have a chuckle at the newspaper headline from way back in the 50s after Queen`s had beaten Celtic 2-0 @ Hampden in a league match(I kid you not - go & look it up) with a brace from star centre forward Charlie Church - "CELTIC GO TO CHURCH." Tee hee. I`m propbaly the only person still around who`s seen Queen`s score 3 goals at Parkhead - twice. In 1967 when Celtic won everything except the Derby & the Boat Race, they struggled to beat the Spiders 5-3 there in the Cup 1st Round after Queen`s opened the scoring in the 1st minute and made it 3-2 in the first minute of the 2nd half and were only 4-3 down with 10 minutes to go. In the early 80s they won 3-2 again @ Parkhead in the Glasgow Cup after being 3-0 ahead @ half time.

A goal in injury time on Tuesday night for the 2nd game in a row but this time, vs.Berwick, only an equaliser unlike Saturday vs.Shire when it was the winner. Stranraer @ Estadio Hampden - chance to close in on the top two.

To young to know ! If only Churchill...of course I knew of the "pedigree" of chaps who followed the Queens. My comment was an attempt at humour.

So we now have another "senior" member on the forum, lets see if we can knock some sense into these young bucks

Sorry JHR, my mistake! Dinnae make jokes about ra ludge, they`re liable to come @ you with a big mace so I`m told. I`ve steered clear of all these masons & St.Columba folk all my life even eschewing joining the BB or scouts.

A year or two before I was fully aware of footie, Queen`s were 4-1 against Rangers in the league & Hampden only to lose 4-6. I`d have hated to have been there!

Craig, thanks for your help and you kind welcome.

It's tight for second place with games in hand potentially bringing Stranraer Elgin and queens park all within a point.

If first place is unattainable, do you feel that finishing 2,3 or 4th makes much difference in the play offs?

The play-off formula is: 2nd in 3rd Division play off vs. 3rd & 3rd Division and bottom of 2nd Division plays 4th in 3rd Division home & away with the two winners playing home & away for promotion/relegation(If 4th in 3rd Division beats 2nd bottom of 2nd Division, there is only a play off for promotion) so I think finishing 2nd or 3rd in 3rd Division is better. This will be Queen`s 4th successive joust in the playoffs.

I forgot to say that the 3rd Division runners up have home advantage in 1st leg vs. 3rd placed club.so finishing runners up in 3rd Division has definite advantages.on two counts.Queen`s Park have never been league runners up in ANY division. Twice runners up in both Scottish & English Cups however. In 1884 English Cup Final, only lost because referee was a "homer" & he more or less admitted it after the game. If Queen`s had been awarded Cup, they`d have been the first & only to do the "double".

Thanks, Black Dog. Excuse my ignorance but what does "SFF" stand for? I regularly went along to Ibrox as a youngster when it was the easiest ground for me to get to on Staurdays when Queen`s Park had miles away "away" games when the Bers fielded the same side almost every week: Ritchie, Shearer & Caldow, Davis, Paterson & Baxter, Scott, McMillen, Miller, Brand & Wilson. Their programme in those days was the most patronising you could imagine - "We welcome Arbroath to the Stadium today. We always have a tough tussle with them and relish the fight." They`d then list all previous results of the "tussles" showing they`d won ever one by 9-0. Ah, happy days!
