Thanks, Black Dog. Excuse my ignorance but what does "SFF" stand for? I regularly went along to Ibrox as a youngster when it was the easiest ground for me to get to on Staurdays when Queen`s Park had miles away "away" games when the Bers fielded the same side almost every week: Ritchie, Shearer & Caldow, Davis, Paterson & Baxter, Scott, McMillen, Miller, Brand & Wilson. Their programme in those days was the most patronising you could imagine - "We welcome Arbroath to the Stadium today. We always have a tough tussle with them and relish the fight." They`d then list all previous results of the "tussles" showing they`d won ever one by 9-0. Ah, happy days!

Ritchie, Shearer, Caldow etc...aye, some team...Personally knew Alec Scott and a gentleman he was. As for the 'SFF'...it's simply the initials of this forum mate.

Harry Davis took over from Eddie Turnbull as Queen`s coach in 1965. He went back to Ibrox as, I think, assistant manager about 1967 - can you confirm his Govan return date Black dog? Scott was eased out by Wee Willie Henderson so Rangers moved him on to Everton where he collected a league championship medal to go with his Scottish ones. Here`s another great line up of that period: Brown, Hamilton, Caldow, Crerand, McNeill, Baxter, Scott, White, St.John, Law & Wilson - failed to reach 1962 World Cup Finals by losing a play-off vs. Czecheslovakia who then lost the Final to Brazil.

I used to edit the Queen`s Park match programme so went to almost every game even Strollers Xl(reserves), Hampden Xl(3rd Xl) & under 18s but now we`ve moved down South I don`t get to games at all now but that doesn`t stop me following their fortunes. I wrote the book THE MEN WITH THE EDUCATED FEET back in 1984 updated in 1992 which gives every Queen`s Park competitive fixture, result, team and scorer from 1872(1st game = vs. The Wanderers in the 1st English Cup semi final) to 1992. Traditionally, Queen`s start a season slowly due to large influx of new, young players every summer, then a surge especially after the New Year then an end of season falling away but this season, like last season, has seen a good run so I hope they`ll stack up enough points while the going`s good so there`ll be at least a play off place in May. However if the Famous Glasgow Rangers(FGR) get relegated to the 3rd Division, it would be fun to avoid promotion just to have them twice @ Hampden for league games! But if Queen`s do get promotion this season then the FGR would have to chase us up the league.

Wow, that must have been a lot of hard work though enjoyable at the same time.

I have to confess that even though Queen's Park are my local team I've never been to see them play. I do go to Hampden though for Scotland games and I've been to a few cup semi finals.

Labour of love. There`s no stranger sight in football than being inside Hampden on league match day - 52,000 capacity & 450 fans. Imagine what it was like 40 years ago when the capacity was nearly 3 times that! In those days the old North terrace was open & we all(200!) clustered together for a good old natter turning occasionally to see if there was anything happening on the field! You should go - you`ll be knocked out.

I should probably go one day for a Queens Park game. Does everyone tend to stand/sit together?

No standing @ Estadio Hampden ol` boy! Only the centre of the main(South) stand is open - visitors on the left & home in the centre; no segregation - you don`t get many rowdies in the 3rd Division, it`s all good fun. Pies & beef cube solution take some beating too.

Any time that I go to Hampden I stand. I can't imagine sitting when there is such a small crowd. You'd struggle to beat a Killie pie.

After yesterday`s results, Alloa look to have clinched the 3rd Division Championship - 9 points clear of Queen`s, 9 games to go. Alloa have won all 3 meetings this season & the Spiders have still another visait to make to Recreation Park. Alloa`ll be the first club to win the 3rd Division crown twice.

The Spiders are on a roll now - 8 games unbeaten with 6 wins. Last defeat = 1-2 @ Hampden vs. Alloa! Where`s Saturday`s game? At Alloa! Nine points between the pair so it`s Queen`s last chance to close the gap for the run in. Alloa are assured of at least a play-off place already & if they win on Saturday would need just 7points from their last 6 games to win the title & become the 1st side to win the 3rd Division crown twice. Yes, it`s a tight fight between Stranraer, the Spiders & Elgin. Queen`s just need two more wins from their last 6 games to be assured of a play-off place for the 4th year running.
