Charlie has surprised me this season,he has done admirably at CB but while having good skills and composure lacks the basic pace needed for the modern game given he doesnt appear to read the game brilliantly, but with a pacy partner who knows and must remember dont leave the wain in the motor daaaa.

A fair assesment and his call up is over due as he has shown good consistency since being in the Celtic side.

Charlie Mulgrew is one of the best defenders in Britain ?

No harm to the young guy, but he wouldnt make the top 100. Having a decent run just now however needs to improve a heck of a lot befor he can be considered the best in Britain

I think that needs deciphering itself!

Steven Fletcher? He's doing pretty well atm, but Levein won't call him up... Lover's tiff

You might be right. Just look at Barca, where they have played with midfielders at centre half, although not usually their first choice with everyone fit.

Without a shadow of a doubt, I think his recent performances put him up with the best defenders in the country, he is solid in the air, comfortable with the ball at his feet, can pick a pass, picks the right time to surge from defence to create attack, is versatile and has special attributes that also make him a stand out e.g. crossing & free kicks.

If he can keep up these performances and also work on marking and offsides then it would be hard not to keep in the CB position.

I find it hard to see why anyone in the forum don't think he is up their with at least the best in Scotland.

Think it is agreed he is having a good spell just now, the quote from Brown was along the lines of "one of the best in Britain" I really think this was tounge in cheek

definitley not one of the best in britain, and debatable on previous seasons if one of the best at celtic let alone in scotland

however, credit where credit is due, he has raised his game recently and found a level of consistency that i certainly didnt anticipate but he can still be very careless when distributing.....he deliberates on a pass to the extent that quite often he's closed down and either has pass blocked or is rushed into lumping it.

i don't like him at left back, but he has developed into a "steady" CB, but the fact remains..he has not faced great competition this season
Faithful through and through
