Mulgrew is the best of a distictly average crew of defenders at parkheid....never a centre half, too many weaknesses for me, tackling, positionally & in the air
Celtics strength in midfield to front relieve a lot of pressure on the defence. Look at the beginning of the season when as a unit they werent playing well......the defence got ripped apart time & again. Better going forward but all suspect in when defending.

Goain has been murder in recent months and always seems a booking/penalty waiting to happen......Bocanegra also had an absolute shocker in the Dundee Utd cup game.......Mulgrew has been really solid at CB to say the least.

Since falling 15 points behind Rangers and the 3-3 at Kilmarnock in November we have lost a grand total of 6 league goals.......not too bad for "distictly average crew of defenders"

Goian is a superior CB to mulgrew in every department. Taking free kicks isnt really a CB job, albeit mulgrew has a fine delivery. Im a bit more old fashioned perhaps in that i want my defenders to defend 1st & foremost.
As i said, celtic playing well as a team flatter mulgrew no end. I would look good spraying passes when i had plenty of time and players making good movemnts ahead of me.
Goian & Bocanegra have been poor for a wee while now but again i put that down to being disillusioned and the guys in the middle having a bit of a 'mare.
Put it this way, if i had a team outwith the SPL say, and was looking to cherry pick a couple of CB's from the SPL, there would be only 2 who would get a look in. If it were a left back then mulgrew would be in the shortlist.

He is out of contract at end of season and expected to move down south. He will be 26 this year. I'm surprised he hasn't featured in Scotland squad much as we could do with a natural left back, especially one who can assist so well.

Goian would have to be in central defence, although the last three games I have seen him in have been shaky and I may drop him if that continues.
Adam Mathews might just sneak in at right back. His throw ins are a massive benefit to any team he plays in and turn a throw in into a cross. Sometimes that quality is overlooked, but just look at the poor throw ins you see from Rangers right hand side.
Other than those three, I am not sure who else to have in the middle. Bocanegra, Webster and Mulgrew are names that instantly come to mind, but couldnt decide who to pick.
Other notable mentions are Sissoko at Killie who caught my eye on occasion, particularly for his strength, but he is liable for the occasional howler. Garry Kenneth - for his ability to be a magnet, where any cross somehow reaches his napper, either defensive or attacking. Paul Dixon - for his attacking ability, which I love in a full back.
