#556723 White Privilege

Hearing and reading more and more of 'White Privilege' apparently a lot of people benefit from it during their lifetime.
Any truth about this so called 'privilege' apparently reserved to the white born race?

It's a pigment of the imagination.

#556490 Celtic want a review over Rangers' sporting advantage

Posted by Hairy Scot on 15 September 2017 - 01:34 AM

I am Rangers supporter and i think there is plenty in it's history that my club should be ashamed of. 100 years of sectarian signing policy for example.

I agree that it is not something of which Rangers can be proud, and it is shameful that it went on for so long.

However, it was not a crime nor was it an act of treason, and although it was never advertised, there was never a cover up.

To put it in context; at the time that policy was introduced there was a great deal of anti-Irish sentiment and, for a variety of reasons, many companies in Glasgow and South West Scotland were reluctant to employ Irish immigrants.

The fact that the majority of these immigrants were Catholic made it easy to interpret the motives of these companies as sectarian, and it lots of cases that was how it came to be.

#556169 BT Sport admit covering up Celtic fans' IRA chants

Posted by Hairy Scot on 11 September 2017 - 01:20 AM

Yeah its terrible staying on topic as it happens every away game for both teams

I dont really care as i can mute my telly but its funny how theres always a celtic thread and not a gers onewhen both DO the same same thing and chant bigotory , well on topic and no whataboutery whatsoever

I think we all acknowledge that the bigotry is not confined to one side or the other, and I agree with you that muting the telly is a good move.

In fact I think BT Sport's decision was a good one.

I'm sure we'd all support a ban on all chants, songs, flags, and banners which are thought to be offensive or to be symbols of bigotry.

Deny the numpties the publicity and perhaps they'll grow tired of their songs and chants.

What I don't get is why some feel it necessary to bring up the other side's flaws whenever a comment is made on the subject.

The comments in The Scotsman's article illustrate just how pointless and divisive it can be.

Isn't it sadly typical that any mention of Celtic fans and their IRA chants, songs, and flags always results in the same old whataboutery and deflection?

problem is though Hairy....the minorities are almost always backed up by the authorities and even the courts when a personal stance is made. Couple of instances....the bakers in Northern Ireland who refused to bake a blatantly homosexual themed cake and there was the couple who eventually lost their B & B business for refusing to allow two gay men to share a room.....all down to their christian beliefs. Just a couple off the top of my head mate. Jeezo, make any kind of reasoned comment/debate about colour, homosexuality and you're accused of being a racist or homophobe by some right on hand wringer. Look what happened in America recently when the right tried to have a public outdoor meeting?

Yep, the whole system has been stood on its head and as you say, anyone who speaks up is labelled with one or other of the current isms.

I'd love to get back to the standards we had in the 60s and 70s when humour was allowed and you could speak your mind without being vilified by a bunch of poofs, whores, comic singers, and apologists who refuse to accept that there are those who just cannot be integrated into civilised society..

You're correct to a degree & I know that from personal experience. However I must enforce the fact that there is a percentage (you put your own figure on it) who DO enter public sector professions (I was a cop for 15 years and worked with Inland Revenue/HMRC for 17 years) & I was one of them, whose first duty was to serve the public.....NOT the other way about.

You lasted a good deal longer in the force than I did.

It took me 4 years to realise I'd made a bad choice but I then luckily I landed on my feet with IBM and embarked on a long lucrative and satisfying career in computing.

The bad choice was not the job itself. I'm sure you'll not need me to spell out where the problems lay.

#555537 should the fa premier league be increased to 22 teams?

It's becoming more and more evident that you are living in some kind of fantasy world.
