#564430 Memories of SFF

Posted by craig on 05 January 2018 - 08:43 PM

Years of constant badgering of Rangers fans and as soon as the Rangers fans bit back all the squeels of bullying. Always gave me a laugh that. Especially the Sheep. What a greeting c*nt that guy wis?

Friday nights/Saturday mornings drink fuelled banter with the likes of Chick, Sheeny, JR etc. Sometimes got out of hand but most of the time was great crack.

Getting banned on a regular basis. I often said the next time you ban me I'm not coming back.

Going to Ibrox with Craig and his wee pal who i canny mind the name of. Sheeny gave him a bottle of beer and he vomited after one drink. He took some slagging for that.

The Pyjama man and his various guises. He was always good for a laugh.

Some of my posts were fantastic. I was without doubt the best ever poster on here. Too bad those threads will be lost for ever. ?apes jaunt was a classic and it's follow up "the road home" well that was just sublime even if i do say so myself. I feel i was under appreciated on this forum to be honest 😂

I can confirm that my mate did just have a single beer and he did almost instantly spew it up. I still laugh about it now.

I thought I should share a random memories from the time on SFF.

Henkes Tongue - I always enjoyed his posts, although at times i did struggle to understand his point. He has a future in creative writing im sure.

I remember that Black Dog used to tell us about trimming his hedge at the bottom of the garden, which we all knew was just a reason to check out the scenary. I remember (i'm not sure why) even drawing a picture of him and posting it in here.

I've forgotten the name of the member who used to post some stats on basketball games. it was really detailed, but i don't think anyone ever understood it.

Geo's quiz. Geo had some strong views, but starting up the quiz brought some fun to the site and also gave some money to charity.

The spotify playlists - I don't know who started it, but johnarob and jaybee were both active participants of the themed spotify playlists. oh, and grumpy.

Did I ever mention that I received an offer to buy the site about 4-5 years back? I can't recall how much it was, but it was something like $1000. they wanted to change the site to a generic football forum with me staying on as admin. I told them no, obviously.

I remember being threatened with legal action one time because a member didn't appreciate me pulling them up about something they said. It also included an offer of a pint.

#564313 Closing the doors

Posted by craig on 11 December 2017 - 08:25 PM

Over the last few weeks and months I have not been able to commit the time that the forum and members deserve. I have therefore come to the decision that the forum will close within the next few weeks.

I have immensely enjoyed the forum over the years. Yes it can be tough when having to act as an admin, but the good times far outweighed those moments and for that I thank everyone (mostly everyone) who has been a part of the forum.

I've enjoyed running the predictor and taking part. I've even enjoyed dishing out the prizes, which sometimes came from my own pocket. I was rubbish at predicting myself, but that didn't matter to me.

It's just unfortunate that I have to make this decision, but I feel it's the right one. I'm not sure when the forum will close, but it will happen in the next few weeks. I will probably leave the PM function open for a little longer than that, but i've not got the exact details ironed out.

Thank you all for being part of the forum, especially to those that have been here for so long.

I think that most knew this kind of thing happened for years. Hopefully the reaction to this particular idiot being outed makes those in power think twice about their behaviour in future.

#556100 Off the cuff posts about 'Any game' not covered by forums

Posted by craig on 10 September 2017 - 09:06 AM

but he didn't actually 'lunge' at the opponent.....he was specifically going for the ball with his boot raised high. So if 'excessive force' is debatable should it still be red ? All about opinions.

It would be really useful if the ref himself could tell us why he sent him off.

Had look at the rules re this and found....

  • Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned
  • Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off

when 'endangers the safety of an opponent' excessive force must be present. Was there 'excessive force used in Mane's challenge ? Personally don't think so so imo a yellow should have been shown.
I like when the rules comes out. If only pundits did that.

Another bit.

"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the
front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force
and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."

I think he lunged. I think he endangered safety of the opponent. Excessive force is debatable, but then the resulting injury suggests it was.

#551196 No predictor for the coming season

Posted by craig on 19 July 2017 - 08:49 PM

Regarding the future of the forum. It makes no money and hasn't done for a long time. I'm not talking profit, I mean that it makes nothing. I don't mind though, so it won't close for financial reasons.

I've never really known how long the forum would last, but I have no immediate plans to review things. I like the idea of football seasons and can see it continuing beyond next summer.

#549193 Celtic want a review over Rangers' sporting advantage

Posted by craig on 05 July 2017 - 06:31 PM

I thought that a ruling was already made on that. No sporting advantage gained, so why the desire to strip titles? If money equalled sporting success, Rangers would be in the next round of the Europa League. They would have fired ten past the financially diddy team. In fact, they wouldn't even have played last night, because they would have finished second ahead of Aberdeen, and been able to rest up while the poorer teams competed in the first round.

I had many a good chat with him behind the scenes. He was quite ill and said that the forum and specifically The quiz helped him pass the time as he couldn't get about much. The quiz helped him and he helped entertain us and also help out charity while doing so.

I suspected it would be serious when he stopped posting, but I didn't know how to find out as he just stopped messaging back.

Aye Foo Fighters are fine. Seen Quo live 40 years ago....brilliant.

PS.....have a great time. Old boy going with you ?

Yeah, it's his 12th year too. He is tempted by Status Quo, especially since he loves the tent / location they are playing in. I seen them play the pyramid a few years back and enjoyed them, but not sure acoustic would be the same, especially after Parfitt dying.
