What about White people..... any figures?

Young black men were nine times more likely than other Americans to be killed by police officers in 2015, according to the findings of a Guardian study that recorded a final tally of 1,134 deaths at the hands of law enforcement officers this year.

The Counted has made up for the Obama administration’s failings, but the lack of oversight remains. So we will restart our count of people killed by police until the government does its job

Despite making up only 2% of the total US population, African American males between the ages of 15 and 34 comprised more than 15% of all deaths logged this year by an ongoing investigation into the use of deadly force by police. Their rate of police-involved deaths was five times higher than for white men of the same age.

Paired with official government mortality data, this new finding indicates that about one in every 65 deaths of a young African American man in the US is a killing by police.

“This epidemic is disproportionately affecting black people,” said Brittany Packnett, an activist and member of the White House taskforce on policing. “We are wasting so many promising young lives by continuing to allow this to happen.”

Speaking in the same week that a police officer in Cleveland, Ohio, was cleared by a grand jury over the fatal shooting of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old African American boy who was carrying a toy gun, Packnett said the criminal justice system was presenting “no deterrent” to the excessive use of deadly force by police. “Tamir didn’t even live to be 15,” she said.

Protests accusing law enforcement officers of being too quick to use lethal force against unarmed African Americans have spread across the country in the 16 months since dramatic unrest gripped Ferguson, Missouri, following the fatal police shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a white officer.

Overall in 2015, black people were killed at twice the rate of white, Hispanic and native Americans. About 25% of the African Americans killed were unarmed, compared with 17% of white people. This disparity has narrowed since the database was first published on 1 June, at which point black people killed were found to be twice as likely to not have a weapon.

#510972 New Scottish Referendum

Posted by sheeptastic on 17 July 2016 - 09:41 PM

One in a lifetime/generation I believe we were told from the SNP prior to the last one.....when was that ?....Oh yeah....all of two years ago. Is this more lies from the SNP ? Mind ye they have to get permission from the UK government to go ahead....Hope Theresa tells wee shoogly heid to fuck off...... :D

SNP has been pro EU for a number of years, as has Scotland.  A cornerstone of the vote no thanks campaign was that we would not be in the EU if we voted yes, that could be seen as a lie no!! as we have seen politics wise we are living in unprecedented times with the leave vote, labour in turmoil and Cameron resigning.  Also Sturgeon was returned just a couple of months ago with a greater share of the Scottish vote due to a manifesto that included the possibility of a second referendum vote if Britain voted to leave but Scotland voted to say, that could be seen to be accepting the will of the people there methinks :-D :-D

You're ducking out because I have stated facts ? I can do more than state facts as I know them & the facts are that subsidies/grants from the EU WILL continue until the UK officially leave because until that date the UK will be paying into the EU.....there's nothing difficult to understand about that surely?.....Obviously the answers/facts don't suit your agenda.....pity, cos you normally like a debate. I do not buy that companies believe there is uncertainty to the extent you make out especially when there is at least 2 years to do whatever they feel necessary.

No need to suggest I am 'ducking out' I have stated why companies are making changes due to Brexit and this is not to your liking, if you dont like that answer take it up with them, I'm just stating what is happening, as I said before this is a punt into the unknown, you may well be right that in the long term this benefits Britain, I may be proved wrong in which case I will hold my hands up.  I accept we are still in the EU for now but you cant blame some companies for making arrangements where certainty exists (ie not in Britain right niow)

#510706 Referendum for Europe. ......

Widely reported where ? Any evidence that this has happened due to the UK having voted to leave the EU? Remember we are still part of the EU at present. There have been numerous holiday companies & other form of businesses gone bust in years past....Is that due to us being IN the EU ? Far too easy to lay the blame at Brexit for whatever happens.

Mate there is no need to say widely reported where? it is all over the news and radio including the BBC, 100,00 people potentially struggling to get their holiday or renumeration is big news in anyones book, shame you cant take my word for it also but heyho I'm used to that on SFF

We can debate the reasoning behind the firms departure and yes they could be using erroneous reasons for going into administration, or embellishing somewhat.  As I have said previously I know of companies closing down offices in Britain or downgrading their staff or operations already due to Brexit, this is because future funding or grants now on hold, I'm hoping people can take my word on that! in any case that is widely reported acrosss the country also.  The long terms costs and benefits only time will tell, I fully accept that some people voted on the basis that they expected short term pain for an anticipated long term gain, hell I voted likewise in the Scottish independence referendum.  As I said first of many with a queston mark as it may or may not happen, again time will tell

#510450 Rangers thread v2

Posted by sheeptastic on 14 July 2016 - 05:14 PM

Couldnt agree more, after all the years of ridicule and nonsense its a wonderful time to be a Rangers fans......with the magic man in charge there are exciting times ahead.

It certainly seems like Rangers have finally got their house in order and now it is the back pages we see them on instead of the front pages which is welcoming.  There also seems to be a sensible signing policy linked to financial restraint and spending within their means, I can see Rangers making great strides in the next few years if they hold to the path they are taking, if some of the Rangers impatients can be kept in check they may well be in the trophies before too long.  Thankfully for Rangers it does seem that a lot of their fans are being sensible about their expectations in the first year in the top tier

It's very different here, and always find it weird when they want to march here when there is no real need but to antagonise others.

As I recall one of the times where Aberdeen citizens got really hot under the collar on this issue was when there was a request to do a march down Union Street, they were sent packing and rightly so, why they would feel the need to walk in aberdeen of all places beats the hell out of me
